Nice Photography

From 'oh comely' - Perfect Strangers

Photo by Heather: 'I took this photograph in St. Ives, Cornwall on my New Years visit down. Walking on the front of St. Ives, I noticed this little crowd of birds, all huddled on the steps. It was particularly windy and they were sat watching the waves roll in over the sand. When one came crashing their way, they would dodge aside before returning to their spot on the steps. I think they were enjoying themselves just as much as we were watching them.'

I would love to work for Oh Comely, they seem like really NICE designers, creating NICE work having a really NICE time.

Cool Can Design//Packaging

I have recently realised that I love rather a lot of the designs on can's so have decided to create a collection of images of designs I think are effective here:

Dandelion & Burdock

'Vintage' Internet Ads

This series of advertisements are designed in the fashionable 'vintage' and 'retro' style of today.  The images are humorous as they all feature strange looking computers or i phones which doesn't really make any sense.  There's something about these images however that I really appreciate, I think it's the colour scheme.  The company producing them is an ad agency named Moma in Sao Paulo.

A lovely book design.

Beautiful hand crafted book design that I found while scrolling through a blog of graphic design graduates from falmouth.  In the future I would like to produce something in a similar hand-crafted way.  http://fromfalmouth.co.uk/claire-staroccia/

I just had to blog this to feed my unhealthy love for letterpress, AND tea.

Study Task 3// What is Graphic Design For?

 Information & way-finding design.

Design that takes the form of maps/signs/leaflets etc.  'Information design is the skill and practice of preparing information so people can use it with efficiency and effectiveness. Where the data is complex or unstructured, a visual representation can express its meaning more clearly to the viewer.' wikipedia.

Pedestrian Crossing by Atelier 9.81

'Interesting way of creating signage and covering a pedestrian walkway by French Atelier 9.81. The structure is made from a composite of aluminium and plastic with a series of folds to create a roof over the passage. Graphics are applied to this surface, directing visitors between a new bus station on one side, and a tram and subway station on the other.'

Video Infographic:  A Marketer's Guide to Pinterest
I found this really interesting as I've never came across an infographic piece designed for any other media than print.

'Back in 2010 we calculated there were 74 million more women on social networks than men. We’ve had a fresh look at the data. In the age of Facebook, Pinterest and Instagram, do chicks still rule?'

Product & Packaging Design

Packaging Design is the design for food, drink, clothing, basically any product that has some sort of cover/box/tag.  Sales, being such a competitive thing means that something with better looking, outstanding or easier to understand design is more likely to sell.

Branding and Identity Design

Wikipedia - The recognition and perception of a brand is highly influenced by its visual presentation. A brand’s visual identity is the overall look of its communications. Effective visual brand identity is achieved by the consistent use of particular visual elements to create distinction, such as specific fonts, colors, and graphic elements.
