Studio Visit // East Street Arts

East Street Arts is a Charitable Organisation which supports practicing professional artists by supplying reduced rent studio's within creative environments.

Based in different locations over Leeds:

Patrick Studios, St Mary's Lane, Mabgate (the one I visited)

The organisation also takes on temporary spaces at reduced rates by offering to landlords with empty buildings that they open up studio space there for a while.  This works because the organisation is a charity it means that the landlord can pay less (to the government) than he would normally have to pay for having an empty building.

Patrick Studio's seems like a friendly environment to work within for a range of practicing artists.  The space however is mostly available for people more like fine artists rather than graphic designers who can perhaps make a better/ more regular wage.

While visiting I picked up a couple of lovely looking publications to hopefully learn more about the place.

This is a scan from one of the publications I picked up, it shows the communal space where artists meet and students are also allowed to use the facilities here, the macs and the printers, and tea & coffee making facilities.

Studiooooos

I have just came across an illustration studio based in shoreditch, London.  The work they create is exactly what I love and I would love to possibly do a placement with them even though the thought scares me a little, however the thought of working in a corporate graphic design studio terrifies me so I am happy I've found somewhere to aspire to be :)

The Studio is called Paper & Cloth and they create beautiful artwork.

Another Illustration Studio I came across recently which is based in Glasgow (my favourite Scottish City).  David Galletly
