The thing I enjoy doing most is making things, and I love crafting and this is the reason that the majority of my briefs are centered around craft making and the craft business/industry. A brief which allows me to focus on this is the DIY crafts manual that Emily and I are designing, which we are designing all of the crafts for, photographing and designing ourselves. We've divided up tasks, we both are making crafts, Emily is focusing on the layout design and I will be doing any illustrations needed and any hand-rendered type.
This brief is great for me as I am aiming to start up my own mini craft business. My initial aim was to get a table at the reetsweet craft fair at the corn exchange but after speaking to other crafters in the industry who have been turned down, I am first of all going to aim to get a table at the Hand-Picked Hall in Leeds, which is a lovely centre of small mainly craft-based businesses in Leeds, Skipton and Ripon.
'Leeds, Grand Arcade (Vicar Lane)
A fantastic new retail space has been created by Handpicked
Hall giving over 100 independent retailers the chance to sell their
amazing products in the city center!'
I feel like it may still be a long time before I can do a craft stall, the main reason being that everything I want to sell is handmade and takes time, and I'd like to have a good stock of products before starting a stall. I will also need to brand myself for this, applying the brand across things like price tags and packaging and business cards. This is something I'm really excited about and I feel like it will be my main focus in summer.
