Study Task 1// Why am I here, What do I want to learn?

5 reasons why I chose to study BAGD at LCA:

  1. I want to become a well educated designer in graphics, and I think that completing this course successfully will fulfill that ambition.  The course is intense compared to some university courses, which I think is a great thing, and hopefully it will give us an advantage over everyone else studying similar subjects.
  2. I want to learn about graphics, understand software and know about what's going on in the contemporary world.
  3. I want to prepare myself for the working world and this course persuades us to be gathering contacts from an early stage.
  4. The college is specifically an art college which is geared up with specialist resources which means we can dabble in anything.
  5. Also because I love being creative and being surrounded by other creative people.
5 things I want to learn while studying on the program:

  1. On the course I really want to improve my knowledge of software that is available for us to use as mixing CAD with hand-made, I think looks great.
  2. I want to know what's going on out in the real world, and be able to match the standard, if not better, the other graphic designers out there.
  3. I'm looking forward to learning more about typography as it isn't one of my strongest points.
  4. I'd love to become more eloquent when presenting work and even when writing.
  5. I can't wait to learn more about screen printing and other techniques of printing that is offered to us.
5 of my current strengths:

  1. I love to brain storm ideas and often my ideas have a real meaning behind them, which I think is important.
  2. I also enjoy working in a group, using everybody's input means you can create something you'd never have thought up in your own head.
  3. I like to be different from everyone else and often my outcomes are completely different from other peoples', I think this is important because I do not want to become a clone.
  4. I like to use mixed media for example; photography, sewing, print, drawing.
  5. I enjoy collecting research from other designers and letting it influence my work.
5 things I want to improve:
  1. I would like to improve my time management skills. Being on time for things, and choosing what is best to do with my time is a bit of a downfall for me.
  2. I want to improve my CAD skills as it's important in the contemporary industry
  3. I'd love to become better at drawing, whether it's detailed or simplified drawings as I find drawing really relaxing.  I also think that when drawings are combined with text it can look really good.
  4. Speaking in front of crowds is a great thing to be able to do well, I need to become more confident when presenting my own work.
  5. I want to become quicker at generating work as I am easily distracted.
5 ways you will evaluate your progress:
  1. Having a blog will help to easily look back at previous work and I'll be able to compare it to the work that I'm doing at the time.
  2. Show my work to people, designers and outsiders, make them tell me what they think.
  3. Group Crits will hopefully also aid my evaluation of progress.
  4. Tutorials and Assessments with the tutors should give me a good over view of how I'm getting on.
  5. As I become more educated in the realms of graphic design I will be able to crit my own previous work and compare it to current work.
 5 questions I'd like answered:

  1. How do I go about finding work experience and internships?
  2. What do I do when I've finished my degree if I don't have a job lined up?
  3. How do I become successful?
  4. Am I more suited to working collaboratively or independantly?
  5. Where will I be in the future, will i be a successful designer?
